He delivered the report from three aspects. Firstly, he gave the overview of Indian textile industry. India is the world’ largest producer of cotton and occupies 22% of world’s spindles capacity. Then he introduced Indian textile industry from cotton, cotton yarn and fabric. Cotton consumption by the Indian Spinners grew by 26% over past 5 years. China is the largest market for Indian yarn recording a growth of 24 % in the year 2015 over the previous year. China is the 17th largest market for export of Fabrics from India. Overall export of Fabrics has declined by – 6 % and export to China has declined by 16 % in the year 2015 over the previous year.

Secondly, he showed the strengths of Indian textile industry from cotton advantage, spinning advantage, equipment advantage and technology advantage. India is the largest producer of cotton in the world and the volume of production is always in surplus to spinning capacity. India has a world class spinning sector with the spinners maintaining excellent manufacturing culture, very high speed operations, very high utilisation and quality orientation. The presence of a world class Indian machinery manufacturer making the entire range of spinning machines with technology from its own International and National R & D centers and marketing them at much lower prices than International companies, ensures that the prices of all manufacturers , be it Indian or European in India is less than in any other country.

Thirdly, he called for the need for partnership approach between Indian & Chinese textile manufacturers. Given these obvious advantages that India currently enjoys in textile manufacturing and will continue to do so in the future as well, it would be advantageous for the Chinese textile entrepreneurs to look at dovetailing their supply chains with Indian manufacturing. Now, it is the right time for Chinese Textile Enterprises to utilize Investment opportunities offered by India.
